The World Design Organization (WDO) is a leading international design body with over 60 years of history. Established in 1957 in Paris, France, it was originally founded as a global forum to advocate for the value of industrial design—a term that was not yet widely recognized at the time. With the mission of defining the role of industrial designers and promoting their professional contribution worldwide, WDO has actively advanced its initiatives while adapting to changing times and global needs. Today, it stands as one of the world’s largest design organizations, comprising approximately 170 member institutions, including design associations, corporations, and academic institutions, across about 40 countries and regions.
Each year, June 29—the founding date of the WDO—is celebrated globally as World Industrial Design Day, a day dedicated to reflecting on the importance of design in society. Every year, the WDO selects a new social theme and fosters global dialogue through a wide range of activities, including online discussions, workshops, exhibitions, and competitions. These initiatives explore how design can address pressing global challenges such as artificial intelligence, sustainability, and an inclusive society, engaging designers from around the world.
In 2025, the theme is “let’s get ethical”, placing the spotlight on ethics in design. The event will feature diverse perspectives and actionable insights through presentations and panel discussions.
Final Aim’s ongoing efforts in the field of ethical generative design have been recognized, and the company has been selected to contribute to this year’s theme. Under the title “Designing the Future with AI and Integrity”, Chief Design Officer Yasuhide Yokoi will explore how emerging generative AI technologies can be responsibly implemented in design, emphasizing the importance of intellectual property protection and workflow transparency. The session will feature concrete project examples from Yamaha Motor and Honda Motor, highlighting how Final Aim’s design and IP management platform enables safe, secure, and ethical use of generative AI in modern design processes.
